A FEW WORDS FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Families

At Hallett Cove East Primary School, we are committed to fostering an environment where every student can thrive. Our site learning targets for this year focus on developing effective learners and a vibrant school community.

We aim to develop students as effective learners who are engaged, confident, and resilient across all curriculum areas. Learning is our core business. We are also focused on equipping students with the regulation skills and emotional capabilities needed to succeed both socially and emotionally. Through effective classroom practice, targeted programs and additional support, we are aiming to help students build self-awareness, emotional literacy and resilience.

We also know that a thriving community is at the heart of our learning journey. We are committed to strengthening our whole school engagement and involvement with community through classroom and whole school events. We want every member of our school community to be valued and connected. We know that great things happen when we all work closely together.

Governing Council AGM

On Monday evening we held the Annual General Meeting of the school’s Governing Council.

It was terrific to hear from our newly appointed Lighthouse Leaders who presented 2024 school highlights. They spoke confidently and with great pride about their school community. We are very pleased to welcome three new parent representatives to the Governing Council for 2025. Welcome to:

  • Hannah Melnyk
  • Amber Tomas
  • Sarsha McKinnon.

We are delighted that we have new representatives joining our council so that a range of perspectives can be presented on key school matters. As always, thank you to all of our volunteers across our school who make a difference to the whole school community.

NAPLAN testing

This coming week, our year 3 and year 5 students will undertake The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) testing. As the NAPLAN testing approaches, we want to ensure that our students are well-prepared and confident. NAPLAN is an important tool that helps us understand how students are progressing in key areas such as reading, writing, language conventions, and numeracy.

Our NAPLAN schedule is:

Wednesday 12th March

Thursday 13th March

Friday 14th March

Monday 17th March

Writing

Reading

Conventions of Language

Numeracy

What can parents and caregivers do to help their child prepare for NAPLAN?

Maintain a healthy routine: Ensure your child gets adequate sleep and a nutritious breakfast on test days.

Keep a Positive Mindset: Encourage a positive attitude towards the tests, emphasising effort and learning over results.

Remember:  NAPLAN is one form of information that teachers use to inform teaching and learning. There are a range of ways that students demonstrate their knowledge and skills throughout the year.

Our teachers have worked with students to ensure they are prepared with the types of questions that the test will contain. We appreciate your support in helping our students achieve their best. Together, we can make this a positive and rewarding experience for all. If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher.

With regards

Matthew Chapman

Principal

A FEW WORDS FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL

Dear HCEPS school community,

It is hard to believe we are over the half way mark of term 1.

Swimming Week at Hallett Cove East Primary School

This week, our Reception to Year 4 students at Hallett Cove East Primary School had an exciting time during Swimming Week! The children took part in a variety of swimming lessons designed to enhance their skills, promote water safety, and build their confidence in the water. The sessions catered to all levels, ensuring every student had the chance to improve while having fun. We are so proud of the progress our students have made, and a big thank you goes to our swimming instructors and staff for making this experience both enjoyable and educational!

International Women’s Day

In celebration of International Women’s Day, I was honoured to receive a special invitation from our Educational Director to represent Hallett Cove East Primary School at the breakfast held at the Adelaide Convention Centre. This event, which brought together leaders and change-makers, celebrated the achievements and contributions of women across the world. It was a privilege to represent our school in the Noarlunga 2 partnership and be in the presence of such inspiring figures, including Senator Penny Wong as a guest speaker. It was an empowering experience, reminding us of the importance of gender equality and the need to continue working together to create opportunities for all.

Kind regards,

Robyn Physick

Deputy Principal

A FEW WORDS FROM OUR WELLBEING LEADER

As part of The Resilience Project (TRP), our classes engage in GEM chats. The purpose of GEM chats is to provide questions and prompts designed to start conversations and encourage students to reflect on their GEM+EL habits (Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness, and Emotional Literacy). These chats offer a great opportunity to build connections between members of the school community and can be facilitated by any staff member.

We know that the most effective way to run a successful program is by embedding it into the school's daily routine. This is where meaningful change and growth happen.

Instead of asking, "How was your day?" or "What did you do today?", try some of the GEM chats below with your family to spark deeper conversations and strengthen connections.

Kind Regards,

Ellie Burford

HARMONY DAY PICNIC / SPECIAL LUNCH ORDER

A few words from the Autism Inclusion Teacher

Wednesday, April 2nd (Week 10) is World Autism Awareness Day. This global event has been celebrated since 2007 to raise awareness, acceptance, and appreciation of autistic people.

There is now a push, from the neurodivergent community, to move away from using the word ‘awareness’ to describe the day. It is believed people are well aware of what Autism is, however, there still needs work around acceptance of Autistic people. Because of this, the UN has made it clear people can choose to call the day either ‘Autism Awareness Day’, or ‘Autism Acceptance Day’. At HCEPS we are choosing to say, ‘Autism Acceptance Day’.

At Hallett Cove East Primary School, we are dedicated to creating an inclusive environment where every student feels valued and supported. I promote inclusion and diversity by sharing best practices and resources through the AIT initiative. The poster below shares some considerations that have been made by the autistic and autism communities around some respectful ways we can promote autism awareness, acceptance and appreciation.

On Wednesday April 2nd, Week 10, our school will be celebrating Autism Acceptance Day. Further information relating to what we will be doing will be promoted via Audiri as well as in the next school newsletter.

Please take some time to read the attached document as it explains important information about Autism Acceptance Day.

Many thanks,

Renee Fisher

A WORD FROM THE CHARITY CHAMPIONS

Hallett Cove East Primary School recognises that Harmony Week is the celebration that brings together Australians from all different backgrounds.

The Charity Champions would like HCEPS to celebrate Harmony Day on Friday 21st March by asking students to dress in orange or cultural clothes and bring a gold coin donation.  All of the money raised will go to the Multicultural Youth Charity, which is a very worthwhile cause.

CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA DAY

On Wednesday 26/02/2025 Hallett Cove East Primary School participated in Clean Up Australia Day.

The 5 junior primary classes walked around the school and picked up all the rubbish they could find – there was more than we were expecting!

The 8 primary classes (over 200 students) walked around our local community. Some classes went along the creek from Barramundi to the playground on Quailo, some cleaned up the playground and some walked along the track to the skate park. We picked up about 25 bags full of rubbish!

It was great being out in the community and looking after the environment. Thanks to classes, school staff and volunteers for joining in.

“Today I went along the creek picking up rubbish. I felt happy because it was sunny and I love nature.” - Zayne
