Swimming Carnivals Update

Junior Swimming Carnival (Prep-year 2)

The Junior Primary Swimming Carnival will be held next Thursday morning, 5th September, with events commencing at 9.15am. Students will come to school as usual, change at school and walk over to the pool with their class teachers at 8.45am. The year 3/4 and 5/6 classes will attend as spectators and parents and friends are very welcome to attend and cheer on the students.

The Prep-year 2 students will participate in various events. Some students will swim in races using a noodle and some will swim without.

Following the races, students will have an ice-cream. They will then return to school until 12.30pm. School will finish for all students at 12.30pm.

Senior School Swimming Carnival (Years 3–10)

The Senior Swimming Carnival will also be held on Thursday 5th September. It will commence at 4pm and should end around 6pm. Students are required to be at the LSSC pool at 3.30pm in order to warm up and be ready for a prompt start at 4.00pm. For any out-of-town students who need to remain after school at 12.30pm, supervision will be provided by LIS staff at the school. These students will then be walked over to the pool to arrive at 3.30pm.

Year 3-10 students will be taking part in various events such as – freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly with some students swimming 25m events and some 50m. Depending on their swimming skill level, some students might not participate in all events for their year level.

Students will be given an ice cream at the end of the swimming carnival.

Parents are welcome to attend and cheer on the students and we ask that you sit in the nominated area. If Prep-year 2 students attend the twilight carnival, they are to sit with their team, either in the Muruks or Kumuls area.

Please note: a program for the Senior Carnival will be sent home next week, once finalised.

For both the morning and twilight carnivals, the toddler pool will be closed. At the conclusion of the twilight carnival, the pool will be closed.

Age champions, Good Sports Awards and the winning house will be announced at Friday's assembly.

Please do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher if you have any questions.

Kind regards,

Miss Meauri (Sports Coordinator)

Friday Assemblies

Parents and Wantoks are welcome to join us for our weekly assemblies held each Friday in the basketball court, commencing at 8.10am. This week it was the year 3/4 Music assembly and next week it will be the Swimming Awards assembly.

Wellbeing Activity Afternoon

As part of our focus on Wellbeing this year, next Friday afternoon, students will participate in some rotational wellbeing activities. Through the Student Council, students have had the opportunity to offer suggestions for the types of activities they would like to participate in. These activities include singing, dancing, drawing and doing yoga. The wellbeing afternoon will be held instead of the end-of-term tabloid sports.

Week 9 Parent / Teacher Interviews - Please book at the office!

Parent Teacher interviews will be held on Monday and Tuesday afternoon, week 9, from 3.10 (High School) and 3.15 (Primary School). Kindy parents are to see Mrs Collins to organise an interview time and Prep interviews will be held next term when Ms Dovaston returns.

Portfolios will be sent home on Friday of week 8. If your child has not returned their portfolio, please ensure it is returned as soon as possible. Parents can book their interviews through the office from Monday. Please either phone, text, email Mrs Exzil or drop into the office to make your interview time. It is important that parents are on time for their interviews as if you are late, you may miss out on some of your allocated time due to the tight schedule for most classes.

Kind regards,

Ms Cathy Langusch

From the Deputy Principal (STM)

Our Batch 3 WR trainees are into their 6th week of the 8-week program. The STM staff have introduced one of the very important modules this week which contain topics on Interview Skills, how to write a Job seeking Application Letter and how to create their Curriculum Vitae (CV). These are lifelong skills that are necessary and are required when seeking for a job opportunity. Trainees are given an hour between 3:00 – 4:00pm each day to work on these skills. They have successfully completed a mock interview session this week as well.

In the next 2 weeks of the program, the trainees will utilise the skills they have acquired to apply for current vacant entry level positions within the company. This is an ongoing and continuous process after the completion of their  Work Ready training program until they secure a job. STM staff are available to assist them in this process.

FODE

Students are continuing their studies at their own pace. NDOE Calander of events are observed and followed. We will send the EC1 & EC2 to FODE Head Office at the National Department of Education, this week, in preparation for the Gr. 10 Exams coming up in October.

Remedial & Exam Preparation

Saturday morning exam preparation plus Monday and Tuesday Maths and English remedials are continuing. STM staff will also run a holiday remedial program in the second week of the holidays.

 Kind regards,
