Kaya, Parents & Community Members,

Since our last Newsletter we have managed to squeeze in our House Athletics events.  While the day was superbly arranged by Mrs Rudd and her team, the students competed in the right spirit and the marching was potentially the best yet, the aspect that sticks in my mind was the community support we received.

As the sky threatened to open, we presented the shield to the winning House – and then it started to rain. Fortunately, thanks to a wonderful a band of parents and community members, the oval (marquees, tarpaulins, tables, bunting etc) was completely cleared. While a couple of us did get a little wet, the efforts of all these people was appreciated and to a large extent epitomises our school community – my sincere thanks to all who helped.

Our term will finish with a flourish – Interschool Athletics to finish off this week, our highly anticipated Speak Up finals next Wednesday and on September 22, the last day of term, everyone is invited to wear a tutu.  Our Student Councillors are to be held entirely responsible for the tutu idea!

Tutu Day

We are excited to announce a special event on Friday, September 22nd, that brings together both fun and philanthropy. On this day, we invite all students to participate in our Tutu Day fundraiser, aimed at supporting our chosen charity for this year, The International Rescue Committee (IRC).

The inspiration behind our dedication to the IRC stems from the moving and personal story of our former school chaplain, who himself experienced life as a refugee.

To participate, all students are encouraged to wear a Tutu over their regular school uniform, creating a colourful and uplifting atmosphere throughout the day. In addition, we kindly request that each student bring a gold coin as a donation towards our fundraising efforts.

Thank you for your support and participation in this worthy cause. Let's make Tutu Day a memorable event filled with compassion and generosity.

Around Glengarry

Numero

On Thursday the 7th of September the committed Glengarry Numero team walked the short journey to St Stephen's School for our Interschool Numero Competition. It was a very close game but... WE WON by four points! We all had a wonderful time and our competitors made us feel welcome. A big thanks to St Stephen’s School for hosting this event. We would also like to thank our very own Miss Loxton and Mrs Senior, and Mr Lewis from St Stephen’s for organising this year's training sessions and competition. We all walked back to Glengarry with huge smiles on our faces and the victory in our hands. We enjoyed using our Maths skills and making new friends, and we can't wait for next year's competition which will hopefully be held here at Glengarry. GO GLENGARRY! 😁

Magic Beans

This week Rooms 1 & 2 received a Special delivery from a Mr Jack Spriggins, who kindly sent us some "Magic" beans. We will be planting these in the coming weeks.

Thank you to Mr Meston for delivering this letter to our classes.

Pre-Primary Father's Day Morning

On Wednesday 6th September the Pre-Primary classes welcomed all the Dads, Uncles, Pops and other special guests into the classrooms for a fun filled Father’s Day morning. It was so lovely to see everyone having fun decorating tennis balls, painting portraits, designing bookmarks, making amazing box construction and splendid crowns in the classroom and enjoying the savoury treats the children made.

House Athletics Carnival

This year's carnival was one of our best for spectators - we think we will keep the set-up, using the school-side track and making use of the shade, in years to come.  Our fabulous tuart trees also ensure a pleasant experience...but what do you think?  All feedback is welcome!

What did the children think?  It was impressive to see the determination, persistence and teamwork, demonstrating they are developing healthy levels of physical literacy.  This is clearly coming from home as well, when we see the support of parents - special thanks for the mad rush to pack up and beat the rain at the end!

Yonga won the Marching Shield with an impressive, united chant.

Maali won the shield with 1473 points.  Kaarda came second on 1386 and Yonga came a very close third on 1352 points with Kwilla fourth on 1351 points.

Go Glengarry!

Personal Best

Madison S attended her first ever swimming competition on Sunday, August 27th for the Annual Junior Meet at Belmont Oasis.  She achieved outstanding results in many of her events and Madison swam the fastest 25m breastroke for an 8-year-old since 2022, with an astonishing time of 28.89 seconds!

Congratulations on outstanding results.

As directed by our guidelines, we will ask for your child to be collected if they are displaying cold symptoms such as a cough, runny nose, fever etc.

We have a student at school who is immunocompromised.  This means they can potentially become gravely ill even when contracting a common cold/virus.  Please be mindful of sending students to school when they are unwell, as they may spread their infection.  Please speak with your GP/health professional and see the information in the links above re: advice about keeping your child at home when unwell.

Feeling Tired?

At this stage of term, everyone is likely to be feeling a bit weary.  Having a good bedtime routine can help you get ready for sleep, no matter your age.  It is a good idea to turn off the brightly flashing screens of TV, computer, iPad, phone, etc one hour before bed.  The bright lights can affect the body's natural chemicals to induce sleep.  Having a shower, reading in bed and massaging one's feet or hands with body oil are also ways to relax before bedtime.  If you are lying in bed and thinking about problems, or what you have to do tomorrow, get up and make a list or think of 5 things to be grateful for, to switch your thinking.

Sometimes tiredness is an emotional tiredness also.  You can be overthinking something, feeling sad, down or any number of emotions about a situation or person, and it manifests as tiredness.  That is your body asking you to listen to it and make adjustments.  Talking to someone who is a good listener can help you to sort your thoughts, as can journalling.  Sometimes by voicing your thoughts to another person you find a solution that you hadn't thought of.  Sometimes just getting the thoughts out of your head and onto paper helps you to realise they aren't all encompassing after all.  Create a consistent bedtime routine and you will probably find that you wake refreshed in the morning.  They say it takes 30 days to make a habit, so why not try it and see what happens.  For those of you who fall asleep as soon as your head touches the pillow, this article is not for you!! 😊
