From the Principal

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Welcome back to Term 3 at LIS! I’m very excited to be commencing my principalship at LIS. Thank you to those people who have welcomed me to my new position and offered their kind support. I look forward to the challenges and successes ahead as I take on this new role with our great school.

I hope everyone had a good break. It is great to see all our students back and eager to start the term. Thanks to our parents and carers for all their support and encouragement during Term 2.

Welcome to our staff who have changed roles

We welcome our new Administration Officer, Ms Clementa Exzil. Clementa has moved from Grade 1/2 and will be looking after the administration for LIS. We also welcome Mrs Lorna Ramaso-Daimol to the position of Grade 5/6 Teacher. Both ladies are extremely competent, and we look forward to supporting them as they transition into their new roles.

Teacher Professional Development

During the holidays, teachers participated in Professional Development. Teachers completed their annual mandatory first aid training, an update on the new PNG Standards Based Curriculum and a presentation from Ms Cherie Litwiller, the Director of Education IEA, about our potential affiliation with IEA. Teachers also visited KoroBoro Primary School Campuses and POMIS.

At LIS - Wellbeing Matters!

The Australian Student Wellbeing Framework supports schools to provide every student with the strongest foundation possible for them to reach their aspirations in learning and in life.

The vision of the Framework is that schools are learning communities that promote student wellbeing, safety and positive relationships so that students can reach their full potential.

The Framework is based on evidence that demonstrates the strong association between safety, wellbeing and learning.

Well done to our students who participated in our end of term talent show - great performances!

From the Deputy Principal (LIS)

Welcome back to term 3! It is looking to be a busy and fun term ahead!

New Ireland Governor's Essay

As part of our New Ireland Day celebrations, there is a Governor's essay competition, where students write a response to a given question or stimulus. I am pleased that many of our students from year 3-10 put effort into planning and writing their essays. Thank you to teachers and parents for supporting our students and we look forward to hearing the results of this competition over the coming weeks.

Friday Assemblies

Parents and wantoks are welcome to join us for our weekly assemblies held each Friday in the basketball court, commencing at 8.10am. This Friday is the Student Council assembly and next week it is the year 1/2 assembly.

Netball Carnival

At the end of week 3, Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th August, LIS will be hosting a Netball Carnival with teams coming from OLSH Kavieng. We look forward to welcoming our OLSH friends back to LIS. LIS will have one junior team (from year 5/6) and two high school teams (Kumuls and Muruks) and we are hoping that a LIS ladies team (or possibly two teams) will also participate over the weekend, versing the Kavieng ladies team. The aim of the carnival is to enjoy playing some fun and competitive games. This week, students took home a permission note that needs to be returned as soon as possible in order for teams to be finalised. Interestested parents can contact Thereseanne Daimol and Alu Kila for more information.

PE Swimming Lessons

As advised by Miss Meauri, this term for PE, all classes from Prep-year 10 will participate in swimming lessons. This is part of our school curriculum and we anticipate all students participating regularly. Please send a note or contact your child's teacher if they are unable to swim.
