Planning for 2026
Planning for the 2026 school year has commenced. It is important that we have accurate information about student enrolments. If your child will not be returning to our school next year, please notify the office as soon as possible. This information helps us plan class structures, staffing, and resources to best support all students. Your early communication ensures a smooth transition for your child and assists us in welcoming new families into our school community.
Class Placements and Transition for 2026
In the coming weeks, students will participate in our transition program to help them prepare for the 2026 school year. As part of this process, students will be invited to share information about the peers they learn best with and to nominate one friend they would like to be placed with next year. While we will do our best to consider these requests, our priority is to create balanced classes that support the best possible learning outcomes for every student. Teachers know each child’s learning needs and group dynamics across the grade and are best placed to make final class placements. If you would like to discuss your child’s learning needs or class placement further, please contact your child’s teacher.
At this time of year, it’s natural for many students to feel curious or even a little anxious about who their teacher will be and which friends will be in their 2026 class. Our Year 6 students are also beginning to think about the move to high school, which can bring both excitement and uncertainty. These feelings are a normal part of growing up and managing change. We encourage families to offer reassurance and support, reminding children that their teachers know them well and make thoughtful decisions in their best interests.
Class placements for 2026 will reflect this commitment, ensuring each student is positioned for success, academically, socially, and emotionally. Thank you for the trust you place in us as a school community. We care deeply for your children and remain dedicated to providing them with the best possible educational experience every day.
Semester 2 Student Reports
Teachers are currently writing Semester 2 student reports, which provide a summary of your child’s learning progress and achievement across all key learning areas this semester. Reports will be sent home at the end of the term. These reports reflect each child’s growth, effort, and achievement against the NSW curriculum outcomes. We encourage families to read the report together and celebrate the progress made this year. If you would like to discuss your child’s report or learning goals for next year, please contact your child’s teacher to arrange a suitable time.
Attendance
As we head towards the end of the year, it remains important that your child attends school every single day. School is the best place for students to learn, build social connections, and develop life-long skills.
We understand that families are eager to reconnect with loved ones, take a well-deserved break, or avoid travelling during peak times. However, please remember that planned travel should only occur during scheduled school holidays. Students are expected to attend school every day each term, until the final day of the school year, unless they are unwell or have a justified reason for being absent.
If your child is absent for three days or more due to illness, a medical certificate is required. Consistent attendance supports learning, wellbeing, and social development, and helps your child stay connected and confident at school.
Kearns Public School PreschoolOur public preschool will soon welcome children into a supportive, play-based learning environment within our P-6 school community.
At our preschool, children will explore, ask questions and learn through play.
Children will strengthen their curiosity and love of learning in a nurturing environment.
Children will engage in thoughtfully designed play-based experiences with our qualified educators.
Our public preschool will be an approved early childhood education and care service.
Australia’s New Social Media Restrictions
From 10 December 2025, many social media platforms will be required to prevent Australians under 16 from creating or maintaining accounts on certain age-restricted services. The changes aim to protect children from pressures and risks they can be exposed to while logged in to social media accounts.
The eSafety Commissioner is leading the implementation of the law. They are responsible for identifying platforms and supporting the community with information and resources.
Under-16s will still be able to see publicly available social media content that doesn’t require logging into an account. There are no penalties for young people who use age-restricted platforms or for their parents and carers as the responsibility is with the platforms.
We encourage you to access eSafety’s resources and support for families on their website and register for one of the upcoming webinars for parents and carers.Webinars for parents and carers

Raising concerns
Our school is committed to building a safe and happy environment for students, staff, parents, and the broader community.
We encourage parents and carers to advocate strongly on their child’s behalf and, as part of this, expect them to raise concerns about their child.
Sometimes these concerns may relate to the way a child may have been treated by another student at this school.
It is natural for parents and carers to feel protective of their children.
However, you must not raise any concerns you have about the behaviour of another child directly with that child (or his or her parents while they are at school) but should instead report your concerns to the principal or a member of the executive team.
Your concerns will be taken seriously and responded to promptly.
If a parent, carer or other community member raises their concerns directly with a child (or their parents while they are at school) this may result in the access that person has to the school site being restricted or withdrawn.
We also ask that parents respect the confidentiality and privacy of student information. We greatly value the contribution parents, carers and other community members make to the school community and do not wish to take any action that impacts on their participation in school activities.

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL ADDRESS K-2
Term 4 started with such positive momentum! Our K-2 students have been eagerly engaged in a variety of learning experiences that are helping them grow in confidence and skills.
In English, our young learners have been busy creating a wide range of texts for different purposes and audiences. They are exploring various sentence structures and grammatical features to enhance their writing. On the reading front, students have enjoyed a range of texts and are using their phonological knowledge to decode unfamiliar words, building on what they have learned in phonics lessons. We thank you for your ongoing support in taking the time to listen to your child read at home, it makes a significant difference in their progress.
Mathematics lessons this term continue to inspire curiosity as students explore many mathematical concepts. They are learning to be flexible thinkers who can approach problems in different ways, developing important skills for problem solving and understanding numbers.
In our Gymnastics program, the students have been working hard on developing their balance, landing safely, rolling, and other fundamental movements. It is wonderful to see both their coordination and confidence improving week by week as they participate actively in these fun physical activities.
We congratulate our K-2 students who proudly represented Kearns Public School at the St Andrews Network Public Speaking Final. Your efforts and courage are truly commendable!
There are still so many exciting events ahead this term, and we look forward to sharing these memorable experiences with our students and families.
Thank you for your continued partnership in your child’s learning journey.

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL ADDRESS 3-6
This term has been full of wonderful opportunities for learning and positive experiences that have truly supported our students’ wellbeing, engagement, and growth.
Our Stage 2 students recently participated in a Kids Helpline session focused on Bullying. The session was lively and engaging, giving students helpful strategies to recognise, respond to, and prevent bullying. It was a great chance for them to reflect, learn, and ask questions in a safe and welcoming space.
Every Thursday this term, our students have enjoyed participating in the Fit Futures Gymnastics Program. This program has been a fantastic addition to our physical education schedule, helping students build strength, balance, and confidence through fun and well-structured movement activities.
Our Year 3 and Year 4 students had an amazing time at Wedderburn Camp! They experienced exciting outdoor adventures and team-building activities that created wonderful opportunities to bond, try new things, and make memories they will cherish forever.
Applications for the 2026 Leadership Team have been shared with interested Year 5 students. We are excited to support these students as they take this important step in developing their leadership skills and making positive contributions to our school community.
We were pleased to welcome educators from Eagle Vale High School who engaged with our Year 6 students by discussing high school expectations and opportunities. The students enjoyed participating in a digital escape room and drama activities, which provided them with a fun and interactive glimpse into high school life.
Thank you so much for your ongoing support. I look forward to sharing more wonderful achievements from our students as we progress through the remainder of the term.

LIBRARY NEWS
As we start to wind down in the library for 2025, we have much to be grateful for.
We celebrated Book Week with a marvellous book parade. It is amazing to see the creativity from students with their costumes each year. The parade coincided with our Annual Book Fair which was an absolutely super successful event. Our school achieved around $2000 in Scholastic Cash which allows us to purchase new resources for our school library.
Thank you to our community for supporting our Book Club each issue. This is another wonderful way to collect funds for our library.
The library is very lucky to be the home of Kearns' newest artwork. Earlier in the year, each student had the opportunity to paint a single tile with Michael Fardon. He then took the tiles away to create an amazing piece of collective art which features the Dharawal totem, the lyrebird.
As we come to the close of 2025 it is important for all library books to be returned. At the beginning of Week 8 overdue notices will be issued to families which will note the cost of replacing any missing books. Please have a good look around home to find these books.
A reminder of the importance and magic of books. Make sure you keep reading in the holidays and be sure to let me know your 'good reads'.
Thank you all for a wonderful 2025 in the Kearns Public School library.
