Rozelle Public School Newsletter

TERM THREE WEEK EIGHT

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Rozelle is a place where Aboriginal children learned, played and celebrated their culture for thousands of years on this beautiful, natural land. As we learn, play and celebrate together on this land, we honour the Wangal people of the Eora nation and pay our respects to elders both past and present..

YEAR 4 CAMP

On Wednesday morning our Year 4 students embarked on a much-anticipated adventure to the Year 4 camp at Narrabeen and what a success it has been!

It was reported that from the moment they arrived, the students embarked on all the activities like rock climbing, canoeing and team-building exercises allowing everyone to bond and step out of their comfort zones. I would like to commend our kids as they demonstrated ongoing support and encouragement for each other and displayed growing confidence as they navigated the challenges. And we were quite fortunate with the weather which was just perfect!

A big thank you to our dedicated team of teachers who always go above and beyond to care for the kids; Louise Howlett, Isabella Lungo, Jen Christie, Amy Horton and Amelia Roberts for her organisation of camp this year as well as Lisa Tohver who supported staff with many components of the preparation. Thank you to our parents for all your efforts and preparation for camp. The students returned home tired but happy, with new challenges conquered and many stories to share. The three days were packed with fun, learning and new experiences that will be remembered for a long time to come.

PSSA SEASON ENDS

The school PSSA netball, soccer and touch football season wrapped up last week with a high level of participation and effort from all the teams. The students valued the experience of competing with other schools, demonstrated improvement in individual sporting skills and consistently built strong teamwork. Thank you to Ms Singleton, Mrs Taylor, Ms Walker, Ms Gubb, Mr Kwok and Darcy who accompanied our kids each week, for your efforts in supporting the kids and sometimes navigating the inclement weather conditions! Another great accomplishment.

KIDS GIVING BACK

I wanted to acknowledge the incredible contributions of Scarlett G (5 Silverstein) a student who participated in meaningful ‘giving back’ activities at Kids Giving Back during the 2nd term and the July school holidays. She was part of a group of 900 students who provided over 6,800 meals, snack packs, and care packages, and wrote heartfelt messages to support 15 charities across Sydney. Her leadership, compassion, and commitment to making a difference are a credit to her, her family and our school as a representative of Rozelle Public School.

K-2 PERCUSSION GROUP

Bruce Stephens uses the standard music notation to teach basic composition, using a range of percussion instruments involving a mix of drums, drumsticks, and boom whackers. The goal of the class is for the children to have fun and enjoy making music! It also prepares them to play later in a band, exposing them to great music beats and encourages them to learn to play as a group. K-2 Percussion Group is held on Friday lunchtimes in the band room next to the Tiger Turf. Cost is $160 per term. If your child is in Years K-2 and interested in joining percussion group next term, please contact matthew.roe3@det.nsw.edu.au

RPS STRINGS PROGRAM

Tanya Swinton is now running our strings program. Tanya is currently studying at the Sydney Con and is a very accomplished musician. We have limited openings for those wishing to take lessons with Tanya during school hours, but with plans to expand availability and restart the RPS Strings Ensemble before too long.
