St Timothy's School Vermont 2024

Term 1 Week 5 2024

All students at St Timothy's School have the right to feel safe. The care, safety and wellbeing of children and young people is the responsibility of all within our school.

Reconciliation

This year, the Sacrament of Reconciliation will occur on Wednesday the 27th of March at 2.30 pm in St Timothy's Church. It will be a whole school celebration, creating an opportunity for all the children to witness and be part of  the preparation and ceremony. In this way the children are able to support their fellow students and gain a better understanding of the importance of the Sacrament.

It will begin with Reconciliation activities during the mid morning, followed by a whole school shared lunch.

In the absence of Fr Gerard, Fr Brian Kelty has kindly accepted our invitation to celebrate the Sacrament with our students.

Over the next few weeks, the Reconciliation candidates will be preparing for their Reconciliation Sacrament at school and practicing the prayers, actions and readings in order to feel comfortable and prepared for this special occasion. all parents are very welcome to attend this Reconciliation prayer celebration.

We look forward to a very special day.

Flourishing Learners- Vision for Instruction

By 2030, Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) aims to become ‘the benchmark for excellence in teaching and learning, through a coherently integrated, academically competitive and distinctively Catholic educational offering’ (MACS 2030: Forming Lives to Enrich the World).

On Tuesday Jessi and Trish attended an Professional Development day to learn more about the changes underway for Catholic Education.

The Flourishing Learners position statement, Vision for Instruction, is a key document underpinning the MACS 2030 strategic plan. Vision for Instruction has been crafted to communicate MACS’ preferred system-wide approach to achieving teaching and learning excellence. It is firmly grounded in the evidence of how students learn most effectively and efficiently, offering explicit guidance for MACS schools on instructional best practice. Trish has already been implementing the Science of Reading  teaching and learning approach.

A Prayer for Help

God, Sometimes I don’t feel like talking about what’s wrong. I just want to be mad or sad or frustrated. I would rather sit by myself. Sometimes, things feel too big for me to figure out. Sometimes, life seems really unfair. I need Your help, God. You are the only One who sees everything and knows everything. You are the only One who knows everything about me. Can You help me to trust You, today? Please teach me how to take what I feel and give it to You to sort out. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Parish News

Parish Newsletter Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd MarchThe Temple in Jerusalem was (and still is) a powerful symbol of holiness and a symbol of the connection and relationship between God and the Hebrew people. It is often assumed that Jesus’ anger was directed at the traders and moneychangers because their business had infringed on and desecrated the temple precinct. But the reality is a bit more complicated. The Temple was the holiest site for sacrifice to God. The tradition dictated that sacrifice made by a priest on the altar was the highest form of worship. The best animal to sacrifice was a healthy, properly formed creature. Rather than walking a lamb all the way from somewhere like Galilee to Jerusalem, the faithful would purchase their sacrifice animal at the Temple itself – thus the presence of the people selling cattle, sheep and doves. However, to further complicate matters, the Temple traders would not accept Roman coins to purchase the sacrificial animals as they bore the image of the deified emperor. Therefore, money changers were required to exchange Roman currency for acceptable coinage – so the money changers were also playing their part in the prayer life of the Temple. Jesus’ outrage is not so much with the traders and the money-changers as with the whole religious practice and hierarchical structure that has developed to a point where the only way a person can pray in a ‘valid’ way is to purchase an animal and hand it over to a priest who goes behind a screened wall to sacrifice the animal. The only way to seek God’s forgiveness and mercy was to ‘buy’ it at the Temple. This was what outraged Jesus. He could not stomach the injustice nor the barriers that had been erected between the people and their God.
