TOKSAVE - Term 3 Week 5 2023

Lihir International School and School to Mine Campus

Principal: Mr Gregory Neville

Deputy Principal LIS: Ms Catherine Langusch

Deputy Principal STM: Mr Kevin Collins

From the Principal

Dear parents and carers,

Exam Preparation

The countdown is on towards National Exams and our Year 10 and Year 8 students have their regular Saturday morning exam prep at STM campus again this Saturday morning. We acknowledge the work that both students and teachers are putting in to prepare for the exams.

Swimming Carnivals

On Thursday of week 8, there will a  junior mini-swimming carnival held during the school day and a carnival for years 3-10 commencing in the late afternoon. Further information about both swimming carnivals will be communicated to parents next week.

Attendance

Attendance at school is very important. Children need to be at school on time every day to succeed in their learning. We have seen some unnecessary absenteeism and lateness, particularly in the high school. If a child is absent, parents / carers need to email the class teacher or send a note on return to the school.

Independence Day.

This year the school will celebrate Independence Day on the last day of school for term 3 – September 14. There will be some special activities to celebrate the day.  Please see the program below.

VIP Champion!

From the Deputy Principal (STM)

Our Work Ready Program trainees are progressing well. Next week we are looking forward to a Mine and Process Plant tour which will provide some context and awareness of potential careers for our trainees.

We are continuing preparation for our DWU Lecturers to come to site to deliver the Bachelor of Primary Education Upgrade and the Master of Educational Leadership during the September school holidays.

National exam remedial lessons at STMC and after school remedial lessons are continuing for Grade 8 and 10 students. These lessons are of great importance as the students prepare for their exams at the start of term 4.

Our FODE students continue to work hard as they prepare for the end of year exams.

Mr Kevin Collins
