Principal's Message

Presentation Day

Every year, Presentation Day is one of the highlights of the school year. The chance to pause, reflect on the year and recognise the outstanding individual achievements of our students is such a privilege. As we look forward to Presentation Day coming this Tuesday, I do want to acknowledge that although we are not recognising the achievements of ALL students, they each have good reason to be proud of their successes in 2023 and for the personal milestones they have achieved. The Presentation Day assembly will be held in the MPC (Hall) at Lambton High School, starting at 10:00am this Tuesday 5 December. Although we have notified the parents and carers of individual students receiving awards, please know that there is an open invitation to all our families to join us for this assembly if you are able.

 Year 6 Fun Day

Last Thursday, our Year 6 students got to re-introduce a longtime favourite of the students at LPS – Yr6 Fun Day. As a group, they planned, organised and delivered some unique and fun activities for the rest of the school. I was so impressed with how well prepared they were, how much thought that they had put into their activities and the kindness and care they showed their peers when delivering the event on Thursday. They were simply outstanding role models and leaders!! It highlighted for the staff and I, how ready they are to tackle the next phase of their life – high school. There are a few photos from the event below for you to enjoy. On behalf of the teachers and students, a BIG THANK YOU to those families that made or donated items to help the students deliver a fun event on the day. We appreciate your time and/or your generosity. It was a great success.

Year 6 Clap Out

As is our custom, we will be holding a special ‘Clap-out’ for all students exiting the school at the end of 2023. This is primarily for our graduating Year 6 students, but students who are moving or changing schools at the end of 2023 are also invited to participate. The clap-out will commence at 2:40pm on the final day of school, Friday 15 December. All students that are continuing in 2024 will form two lines which will weave their way from the top cola all the way down towards the canteen/hall cola. Parents, carers and friends are invited to join us for this event. Please feel free to position yourself where you can get a good view of the students as they are ‘clapped out’. There are usually great opportunities for photos under the canteen/hall cola at the end of the clap-out procession. We hope you can join us!

Have a great week!

David Holland

Presentation Day

We look forward to parents and carers joining us this Tuesday as we come  together as a community to celebrate our student’s successes.

Where:  Multi-Purpose Centre (Hall) at Lambton High School from 10:00 am

  • Students should come to school in the morning wearing full school uniform and will travel to and from Lambton High School by bus with their peers and teachers.
  • Year 6 students must wear their regular uniform, NOT their Year 6 T-shirt.
  • If your child will be receiving an award on Presentation Day you should have received a notification of this via email so that you were able to make arrangements to join us on the day.
  • Morning tea will be provided for the award recipients and their guests at Lambton High School after the assembly.
  • The canteen will be closed for recess orders, all students need to ensure they bring something to eat at recess.  The canteen are accepting lunch orders and will be open during lunch as per normal routine.
  • We remind parents and carers that students will not be able to leave the venue with their parents, all students will return to school with their teacher on the bus.
  • If parents wish to take their child home after they arrive back at school, they need to come to the office and sign them out, however, it will be marked as an unjustified absence as normal classes will continue after this event.

We hope you can join us to celebrate our student’s achievements at our 2023 Presentation Day Assembly, regardless of whether your child is receiving an award or not.

Mosquitoes on the rise

With the moist and humid weather over the past 2 weeks, the teachers and students have noticed an increase in the mosquito population again. A reminder to parents that students are encouraged to pack a roll-on insect repellent in their bags for use if needed. They can apply it before the recess and lunch breaks any day where they would like to avoid mosquito bites.

Christmas cards to friends

It’s back! Lambton’s school Christmas Card fiesta. This kicked off last week and students have been busy giving and receiving Christmas Cards. Before posting, children must clearly label their cards with the recipient’s name and class for us to be able to get the cards to them. At recess, our ‘Christmas Elves’ (2023 School Captains) will sort the cards into class bundles and deliver them to classes later in the day. The children get a nice surprise when receiving a card, not knowing who it is from. Please encourage your child to think of friends and peers that may also be overlooked for cards – after all Christmas is a time of giving! Students always ask if it is OK to include a small candy cane with their Christmas Cards to friends? We say yes, however, the students will be encouraged not to eat them at school but to take candy canes home. We will leave it to parents to regulate how many candy canes your children are allowed to eat

Swimming Carnival 2024

Our 2024 Swimming Carnival for all students in Years 3 – 6 in 2024 will be held at the Forum Aquatic Centre, Newcastle University on Friday 16 February 2023. The carnival is primarily for students in Years 3 – 6, however if your child will be in Year 2 next year and turns 8 in 2024, they may be eligible to attend. To be eligible, these students must be able to competently swim 50m and be an active member of a swimming club. Yr 2 students who attend, will compete in their 50m freestyle race, which is the first race on the day, and must return to school with their parent directly after this race. Yr 2 students who do not meet this eligibility will be required to attend school with the remainder of K-2, for a normal day of school.

Permission notes for the 2024 swimming carnival were sent out via School Bytes last week and be due back by 9 February 2024.  We apologise for the additional expense at this time of year however the carnival will be held not long after students return in 2024. This will not leave a lot of time to finalise the organisational planning for the carnival.

Student movements 2024

Thank you to those families that contacted us recently to let us know that your child will be leaving or moving to another school in 2024. If any other families learn between now and the end of the year that your child will need to move, we would appreciate you letting us know early, as it influences our enrolment and therefore our class structures and 2024 planning. The best way to notify us of a move, is simply to email the office.

Congratulations to the 214 students from Lambton Public School who successfully completed the 2023 Premier's Reading Challenge.  Thank you, teachers, parents and carers who encouraged them along the way.

K-2 students participated in the PRC at school during library and class lessons, while 3-6 students who chose to participate, did so in their own time.  Certificates will be handed out shortly.

Thirteen students have received a PLATINUM AWARD for successfully completing the Premier's Reading Challenge for 7 years.

School Assembly

The final school assembly for 2023 is scheduled to take place in the hall on Thursday 7 December and will be led by our 2023 School Captains. Family and friends are invited to join us if you can.

Students work in the Spotlight - Class 1B

1B have been learning about different festivals from around the world and enjoyed creating artworks! We have learnt about the Hamani Festival in Japen celebrating the flowering of the Cherry Blossom trees and the Burunga festival here in the Northen Territory of Australia, celebrating our wonderful rich Aboriginal culture, music, art and sport. We also researched the La Tomatina festive in Spain, but our artworks were not quite finished in time for the newsletter!

In Personal Health and Development we have learnt about keeping safe from the sun and in and around water and roads. We created some posters to show off all our knowledge!
