Thank you to everyone that attended today's assembly where we got to watch the Year Five/Six class present an performance around the scriptures  which reflected upon the importance of forgiveness. . We also had the chance to thank Father Andrew for all his many good deeds over the last seven years in both the Parish and School.

Faction Cross Country: Thursday 23rd May

Thank you to Mrs Crees for her organisation with the Faction Cross Country. The children have been busy training over the past month in preparation for their races. Please see today's Audiri post for all the information you need for the event. Thank you also to the parents/carers that have volunteered to help out on the day!

Mary Help of Christians Mass, 24th of May

Everyone is welcome to join us at our School Mass on Friday the 24th of May at 9am and meet our new Parish priest Father Philip, it will be our first chance for us to welcome him to Merredin. The Mass will be presented by the Year Three/Four Class.

Replacement of Turf

Our replacement turf in the Kindy/PP playground will occur over the 30th & 31st of May. You can see a sample of the turf that will be laid on the noticeboard outside the office. The turf is 100% Australian made, which is significant, as the company has indicated many of the Astroturf companies around the world that manufacture turf do so, using a cocktail of nasty chemicals which leach out over time. Happily, our children won’t be exposed to any of these nasties when our turf is laid.

SAC Update

The School Advisory Council (SAC) met on Monday the 13th of May, we acknowledged that this was Father Andrew's last meeting prior to him finishing at the St Mary's Parish on the 19th of May. Father Andrew was thanked for his services he has provided to the Parish and School over the past 6 years. We wish Father Andrew all the very best.

Key items addressed at our meeting included:

  • Kindy / Pre-Primary Improvements - the final part being the Turf which will be laid on the 30th / 31st of May.
  • NSI Survey results
  • Uniform Update - the New Polo has been well received. Some winter items have been reduced to deplete some stock. David will address any future changes once he sees what stock is purchased throughout the winter.
  • Advertising regarding Enrolments
  • Seesaw / Audiri
  • Advertising in the Church Bulletin

This is also a reminder that the role of the SAC is to support the Principal to fulfil their responsibilities in leading the Catholic Identity, Education, Community and Stewardship functions of the Catholic School in pursuit of CEWA's vision to be Christ-centred and child-focused. The SAC's purpose is an advisory role not a decision making role: we offer suggestions and ideas and the Principal takes this into account when making his final deliberations on any decisions that need to be made.

National Simultaneous Storytime – Wednesday 22 May

National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country.

The library monitors will be reading the 2024 National Simultaneous Storytime story the ‘Bowerbird Blues’ by Aura Parker to the students from Kindy to Year 6 on Wednesday the 22nd of May.

Why did the old man fall down the well?

He couldn’t see that well.

Many thousands of Western Australian families and individuals each year depend on LifeLink agencies being there for them at their time of need.

LifeLink Day will be on Wednesday the 5th of June and students are invited to wear their pyjamas and to donate a gold coin which will be donated to this well-deserved cause.
