Principal's Message

Welcome back! It’s wonderful to see all the bright smiles on our children’s faces—and the happy faces of parents too! It looks like everyone enjoyed a fantastic break. After having an amazing 6 weeks tripping around Scotland, Portugal and Spain, I’m refreshed and ready for Term 4.  Huge thank you to Mr J for sitting in the hot seat and doing a fantastic job!

We’re excited to share some lovely news from our CPS staff family: Mrs. Reid welcomed a beautiful baby boy! Although he arrived a little early, both mum and baby are doing well. Congratulations to Hannah and her growing family!

We’re also thrilled to welcome Mr. Pollard to our team in Room 8 (Monday to Wednesday). The children have already made him feel right at home!

As we look forward to World Teachers Day on Friday, October 25, I want to take a moment to express our gratitude to our amazing teachers. Their dedication to our students is truly exceptional. I hope you’ll join us in celebrating them!

The CPS School Board plays a vital role in supporting the school to achieve optimal outcomes for students and ensuring effective governance. We strive to use school resources efficiently while aligning community expectations with the priorities that best reflect our students' needs. Our diverse membership includes parents, community members, and staff providing various perspectives. We are pleased to announce that we have filled our current parent vacancy. Congratulations to Rosie Kimble, who successfully gained the position after voting. We also extend our gratitude to Emma Allanson and Liann Hope for their nominations. Thanks goes to our outgoing parent representative, Kieran Johnson, for his commitment to CPS.

We have our Community Open Board meeting on Monday 21 October at 6.30 in the Library. Everyone is most welcome to attend as we present an overview of the years events and future direction.

To ensure our community is informed about the functions of the board, we’ve provided a summary:

Decision making - Some of the matters board members may make decisions on, include contributions and charges, book lists, sponsorship and dress codes. They make these decisions with the principal and others who ensure the decisions meet legislative and policy requirements.

Informing - Principals also seek the perspective of board members to understand local community views. Members also take part in establishing and reviewing the school’s objectives, priorities and general policy directions.

Promoting - Members positively promote the school in the community.

What board members are not involved in.

·  Take part in the management or day to day running of the school.

·  discuss individual issues relating to teachers, staff, students or parents.

·   represent specific interest groups or permit special interests to dominate the agenda of the board.

·    intervene in the educational instruction of students.

·    exercise authority over teaching staff

·    performance manage the principal or any other Department of Education employee.

We have had the Latte Lab coffee van visit the school every Wednesday at recess for staff coffees. To provide this opportunity to our parents the Latte Lab will be at school near the teachers carpark from next Thursday morning from 8.30 – 9am. Hope you take the opportunity to get your early coffee fix!

Introducing another unique afterschool opportunity - SquadDrone

At Squadrone, a startup supported by Venture UWA, we believe in making learning accessible and fun for everyone. We know that not everyone learns the same way, and some concepts, like maths and coding, can be challenging. That’s why we use drones and mini-drone light shows to bring STEM subjects to life, teaching coding, AI, and geospatial science in a way that’s both engaging and exciting.

One parent from our recent program shared: “The workshop was absolutely fantastic! The kids had such fun, and it was so good seeing the combination of maths, technology, and fun! We loved it.”

Join our 7-week after-school drone club at Churchlands Primary, where your child will:

  • Learn about CASA drone safety and receive a CASA safety certificate
  • Explore drone control systems
  • Master coding to send commands like a pro (with options for beginners or intermediate levels)
  • Enjoy an exciting mini-drone light show demonstration at the end of the course

When: Every Wednesday, 17 Oct to 28 Nov, 3:15 pm to 4:15 pm

Where: Churchlands Primary School

Cost: $269

Spaces are limited! Book now using the QR code or visit squadrone.com.au.
