Rozelle is a place where Aboriginal children learned, played and celebrated their culture for thousands of years on this beautiful, natural land. As we learn, play and celebrate together on this land, we honour the Wangal people of the Eora nation and pay our respects to elders both past, present and emerging.
The past fortnight has been very busy at Rozelle for staff and students. School photos were expertly coordinated by Sepfora and The School Photographer. It required 2 days to ensure all class, individual and sibling photographs were taken. The school expects photo packages to arrive in early Term Three.
Our Zone Cross Country Team competed in the Balmain PSSA Carnival at Jubilee Park and there were some outstanding individual performances. We are proud of the entire team and their effort, especially those students who have progressed to regionals. I would also like to acknowledge Mr Alden Kwok, who was the coordinator of this years’ Zone Carnival.
This week, the school acknowledged Reconciliation with an incursion from Koomurri. Students spent Monday engaging in activities and learning about Aboriginal culture and histories. It was wonderful for staff and students to begin the week with a smoking ceremony. As part of our acknowledgement, the whole school gathered in the hall for a very special performance by our choirs. Accompanied by Ms Christie and Mr Hartnett on guitar, our mass choir performed ‘From Little Things Big Thing Grow’. They performed beautifully and we hope to reprise the performance later in the year. Thank you to Mrs Horton who has led the organisation of this year’s Reconciliation events.
We have now tipped over into the second half of the term with teachers working on Semester One student achievement reports. These reports will be sent home with students on Tuesday 27 June. Our Year Four will be off to Narrabeen Sport and Recreation Camp while Year 2 & 3 will participate in a two week swim school. We have students performing on the stage of the Sydney Opera House and competing at the Regional cross country championships. Fortunately there will be a long weekend to catch our breathe!
WINTER ILLNESS
Winter illnesses, including flu and COVID continue to circulate and impact staff and students. The past fortnight saw various year groups impacted including all our Year Three teachers. The school executive does its very best to maintain continuity of staff and we are well supported by a small number of regular casual teachers. However there may be a day where the class will need to be split. This is a last resort - and will not happen on a regular basis.
If your child is unwell, they should not attend school. This can help reduce the spread of colds, flu and other viruses. Should your child become unwell at school, the office will phone parents and you will be requested to come and collect them as soon as possible. Parents should still be informing the school should their child test positive for COVID.
