P&C Update

Following our latest P&C meeting on Thursday 18th July, we are seeking your help. I don't know a single person who is "not busy", but we are relying on everyone to make a real difference.

The old saying, "It takes a village to raise a child" is true. We are calling all Villagers!!

We are searching for a new President, Secretary and Treasurer in order to continue the legacy of many hard-working people before you.

The Peachester P&C is a body of committed volunteers, working together with the aim of contributing positively to our school community. They provide both financial and practical assistance, resources and services to improve the facilities and opportunities available to our small school. Some of these are new Reading books, Playgrounds, SAKG Program, TuckShop, Uniform Shop and Book Club. The P&C have also been successful in receiving many grants, with over $50,000 this past year for the update of oval drainage.

Debra Hutchinson and Kim Cross took on their positions of President and Treasurer respectively at the AGM in March. Both the ladies were new to our school community and brand new to the P&C. Unfortunately for us, both ladies are no longer able to maintain these positions, so we are looking for a new wave of awesomeness!

If you are interested either in an executive position, or would like to join the P&C in another capacity, please drop in and see Admin.

Help make a difference for your students and school!

P&C Role Descriptions

ARD - School Supervisor

In previous emails you may have noticed my reference to 'our ARD' . The letters stood for Assistant Regional Director. From the commencement of Term 3, the Department of Education has introduced 'School Supervisors'. School Supervisors will work closely with our schools across the state to support schools and their communities in the provision of their education programs. The school supervisor for Peachester State School is Mr Martin Leach. Martin is not a stranger to us, as he has visited us many times as our ARD. We are very lucky to be continuing our relationship with him as our Supervisor.

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)

Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).

Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:

  • year of schooling
  • category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
  • level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.

This information assists schools to:

  • formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
  • consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
  • develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.

The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.

The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy

Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal.

If you have any questions about the NCCD, please contact the school.

Parade Awards - 13th July, 2023

Prep/Year 1 News

This term we are listening to cultural and traditional stories. They come from all over the world, so we look at our world map to find out where those places are. “How the tiger got it’s stripes” comes from Thailand, “The frog in the well” from China and “Mariana and the Merchild” from Chile.  As well as our many traditional Aboriginal stories.

Year 1/2 News

Welcome back to Term 3.

We welcome Henry to our class this term.  Great to have you and your friendly nature in our classroom.  In English we are learning to retell and compare Cultural stories. We have read about Tidddalick the Frog who was very greedy and drank up all the water in all the creeks and didn’t leave any for the other animals.  The animals decided to try and make him laugh to get all the water to come out so they played leap frog, they strutted about and finally the Eel tied himself in a knot and Tiddalick laughed and all the water came back out.  Here are some pictures of us tying ourselves into knots like the Eel.

We had lots of fun retelling and acting out this story.

Year 2/3 News

Welcome to Term 3

In English this term we will be creating a digital multimodal text. We are learning to type and use Paint to add images to our writing.

Our classroom will become a toy factory as we are learning about push and pull toys and will make our own at the end of the term. Students are already thinking about their toy design. We drew robots and discussed how they move.

Year 3/4 News

It is great to be back.

The students have made me feel very welcome.

I would like to take this time to have a brief review of reading expectations for the class. Reading is a school wide focus this year at P.S.S. In our class we have seen terrific progress from many students. It is fantastic to see how much progress is being made. I would also like to thank all the families that are consistently filling out their students reading folders on a daily basis.

At the moment, home reading is the students only homework. As a class, we are working towards a reward when the whole class has brought their signed folders in for 5 days.

In 3/4, students are expected to read their Lexile or home reader book at least 5 times a week. Of course, 7 days a week is better!

Students who are on Lexile are also welcome to read E-books on Scholastic Learning Zone for their daily reading homework. Students who complete quizzes on Scholastic Learning Zone are recognized with certificates on parade.

If you have any questions about reading in our class, please drop in for a chat😊

Year 5/6 News

Term 2 Sports Wrap Up.

The last day of term saw the final day of interschool competition for both soccer and netball. The girl’s netball team enjoyed their day and the soccer team was very successful taking out the Boys B competition.

This term it is Touch on Friday of week 4 and week 5 right after camp.

C.E.E.P Day 1

Friday last week saw some of the year 6 students attending their first of 2 C.E.E.P days. It is an opportunity for the year 6’s to nominate for and to explore a range of different programs on offer at Beerwah State High School.  Read about our adventures below.

We did the design technology workshop and made a pencil case out of wood with a sliding lid. We got to use a sander and did a tour of the workshop where some grade 10 and 11’s were making a race car. After we finished the pencil cases, we went into another room and got to do some designing in CAD. Overall CEEP was an awesome experience.      Josh and Jaxon.

I participated in the Arts program by myself. The elements of Arts my group got to participate in were Music, Drama and Visual Arts. Our group’s first lesson of the day was Drama. We got to play games like postcard which I thought was really fun. We also got to make up scenarios with a group and got to see other students with their cool scenarios. For our music lesson we got to learn 4 of the instruments from the drum kit such as the high hat, tom-tom, snare drum and the base drum. We got to play a little bit of the start of a song. For visual arts we had to draw and paint sunflowers in a vase which I thought was really fun. I also made friends with the school captain from Beerwah State School. Violet

We did the Sports AEP program. First everybody got split into their groups of choice. We did rotations in the student centre, the drills were for power and strength. We got to play fun games and had lunch. Afterwards, we went back to our groups and down to the oval to run a bit of their cross-country track and play some drills for Oztag before playing a game of it. We then had second break and played pickle ball in the half courts. We really enjoyed it and had fun experiencing new things. – Sophie and Sevennah

We did Science together. Our first experiment was to see how high different types of dough rose over time. Next, we put food dye in different milks with detergent. After that we collected DNA from strawberries and at the end of the day we put 362 rubber bands on a watermelon and it exploded. It was a super fun day and we can’t wait for the next CEEP day. -Micah and Oscar
