Principal's Message - Kim Fraser

Well, the P & C have done it again!! The book fair has again gone off with a spectacular bang! Huge congratulations and thank you to the organising team and all the parent volunteers, again we couldn't have these wonderful events without you. This event is always a massive hit with the students and staff. The love of reading is certainly alive at CPS!

It was a great privilege to have the opportunity to celebrate and connect with our incredible volunteers at a special morning tea. We are so grateful for the dedication and generosity of the many parents, grandparents, and community members who give their time and energy to support countless events at CPS.  Our community would not be what it is without you. Your hard work, kindness, and unwavering support make all the difference, and we are deeply thankful for each and every one of you.

All schools have been provided instruction from the Deputy Director General to initiate a review of our Reporting to Parents (RTP). This is part of a department-wide initiative to reduce red tape and workload for teachers and school leaders. To support this the instruction is:

The Department has worked with the School Curriculum and Standards Authority to clarify the following:

•           There is a requirement to provide an overall teacher comment, the content of which is determined by the school.

•           There is no requirement to provide learning area comments.

•           There is no requirement to provide grades at the strand or sub-strand level.

•           There is no requirement to provide a learning area comment or attachments, such as photos, for students with special educational needs. Reporting for these students aligns with the individual education plan that was developed with parents.

To align with the instruction staff and the board have reviewed our RTP guidelines and the key changes are below:

  • Comprehensive Reporting: For CPS students, reports will now include a grade for each learning area, alongside a general comment that highlights English, Maths, and Wellbeing. This focused feedback will give you a clear picture of your child’s strengths and areas for growth in these core areas.
  • Streamlined Subject Comments: There will no longer be subject-specific comments for learning areas, which allows for a more concise and targeted general comment of your child’s learning and progress.
  • Statement of Intent – Expectations: We have further defined the Statement of Intent in our CPS RTP guidelines, ensuring there is a broader scope for informal updates throughout the year. This allows for ongoing engagement between you and the school, keeping you informed about your child’s achievements and progress.
  • Increased Parental Involvement: Our goal is to foster stronger partnerships between teachers and parents. With clearer and more focused reports and Expectations, we aim to support parents in actively engaging with their child’s learning. We encourage you to reach out to teachers if you have any questions or wish to discuss your child's progress further.
  • Why These Changes?

Our aim is to create a reporting process that is meaningful, engaging, and encourages open communication. By streamlining feedback, we hope to provide you with a clearer understanding of your child's development while promoting an ongoing dialogue with their teachers. We believe that this partnership is key to supporting your child's success and wellbeing.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership. We look forward to the ongoing conversations that will help your child grow and thrive in their learning environment.
