New Lambton Heights Infants School

Term 4 Week 1 2023 Newsletter

We at New Lambton Heights Infants School acknowledge that we learn and play on the traditional country of the Awabakal people. We pay respects to Elders past, present and emerging, valuing their knowledge and seeking continued respectful relationships.

We recognise, respect and appreciate the traditional custodians cultural heritage, beliefs, relationships, and continued connection with the land, the skies and the waterways. This continent was and always will be Aboriginal land.

Welcome Back to Term 4

I know I say it every year ... I can't believe we are at Term 4 already!

Something very exciting happened over the holidays. A group of big and small workers painted our wall in the playground! The P&C working bee was a great success with students past and present helping painting the background for the beautiful coffee cart and fruit and vegetable stall. It really was lovely to see. Thank you to Anna and Kelly (Nancy's mums) for the extra time they put in over the holidays painting the mural. There are a few finishing touches to go, but it looks magnificent. Please come in and have a look.

Term 4 is another busy term, starting with swimming at The Forum. More details can be found below. We will also be having The Life Education Van at school in 2 weeks. Information about this will come home later today.

Term 4 events dates can be found in the What's On and on the calendar in the Sentral Parent Portal. Please check on this regularly, as sometimes details change. Please be sure to update your Sentral App and get used to using this as in 2024, Sentral will be our main form of whole school communication.

Kinder Orientation and Year 2 transition will start this term. Our enrolment expo on Tuesday afternoon this week went really well. We are feeling quite organised! Thank you to Lisa from OOSH and to all the members of the P&C for their assistance with OOSH enquiries and uniform fittings. I have been speaking with Mrs Lennard and she said they are getting very excited about welcoming our Year 2 students at WSPS for their transition visits. All dates and times are listed below. Mrs Lennard works as our Assistant Principal Curriculum and Instruction (APCI) at NLHIS on Wednesdays and is at WSPS the rest of the week, so if any Year 2 parents have questions or just want to introduce themselves to Mrs Lennard, I know she would love to meet you.

We are looking forward to a great term to finish 2023.

P&C Update

Have you seen our beautiful mural?? Make sure you come down to the basketball court to admire it! Thank you to all the families who came along and helped and to Anna and Kelly for their artistic talents and time to make such a beautiful space for our children to play.

We need your help! We don’t run without our volunteers so If you can help out, please get in touch at the link provided or via nlhipandc@gmail.com

Uniform Shop

The uniform shop is seeking one to two volunteers to assist with running the uniform shop. This is to assist with the weekly running of the shop and includes: filling orders, taking payments, fitting students, managing orders and assisting families. This requires on average 30 minutes per fortnight commitment during term which can be shared between 2-3 people to reduce it even further.

If you have any questions or would like to know more about this role or how you can help, please get in touch with Vicki Maltby at nlhiuniform@gmail.com.

Teacher Appreciation

It is Teacher Appreciation Day on October 27th and to show our appreciation to the teachers at NLHIS, we have a few things planned. We have plans to send home some ‘apples’ for the children to write messages of support, love or other words to their teachers and support staff at the school. The other thing is to fund a lunch for the teachers and support staff during the week of teacher appreciation day to show our own appreciation for their hard work. Please keep an eye out for the apple worksheets coming home with the children soon.

If you can volunteer another Friday in  4, please sign up here:

Call-out for Donation Items

Do you have wooden fruit and veg? We are seeking donations of wooden fruit to go with the mural update on the basketball court, idea being they will survive the out side conditions and allow the kids to play along once the mural is complete. If you have any and are willing to donate please get in touch with the P&C.

Tea Towel Fundraising

Mrs Hughes has been working hard with the students to get them to each complete a self-portrait that will be turned into a beautiful keepsake tea towel (see the examples below). These will be ready to purchase next term and are great for your own kitchen or as Christmas and holiday gifts. The tea towel will feature a self-protrai drawing of each child and teacher at the school in 2023. More details to follow soon.

Recycle your cans, cartons and bottles!

You can help us fundraise for the school P&C AND help the planet at the same time simply by recycling drink containers (remember not to crush them)! You can now donate your 10c refund(s) to New Lambton Heights Infants School P&C Association from any Return and Earn machines located near you using the Return and Earn app.

And it's easy as 1,2,3:
