It is hard to believe that the end of next week marks the halfway point of term two. This term seems to be flying past.
Next week (week 5) is Reconciliation Week. The theme this year is ‘Be a Voice for Generations’ and classes will be working together to learn about culture and history. Keep an eye out on Seesaw as I am sure teachers will be sharing aspects of student learning over the coming week.
It has been great to see members of our SRC selling lemons picked from the school trees before and after school this week. Students have been part of the whole process, from picking the lemons, to making the signs and researching the best price. Thank you for your support in their venture. So far, they have made around $70. The SRC will decide what to put the money towards at their upcoming meetings.
As you would have seen in the Covid updates, we are beginning to see a few more cases again. We encourage you to keep your children home if unwell, and to continue to let us know if your child tests positive. As always, we appreciate your support.
As I wander through the classrooms each day, it has been lovely to see a group of parents in the Junior Primary passage in the mornings listening to reading. This provides our students with extra time to practise reading and helps them to continue to build their skills. This is something that we have missed over the last few years, and it is great to be able to welcome volunteers back in our school. This is only one of the ways that you can volunteer at Dernancourt. If you are interested in finding out how you can volunteer at school, and what you may be able to help with, please speak with your child’s class teacher, or contact the front office to obtain a volunteer pack. Thank you to all of our amazing volunteers!

Our Casual Day at the end of last term was a great success with gold coin donations raising $280 for the Salvation Army. It was great to see so many children in their favourite team colours.
Our Peace Pole has arrived from Rotary with classes deciding to have it placed in the butterfly garden near the front of the school for children and families to enjoy.
We have organised for new bins to be placed in the yard for children to recycle cans, drink cartons and water bottles. Money raised will go towards games, activities or sports equipment that all children will be able to use at break times.
Our SRC reps welcomed children who chose to walk to school on the National Walk Safely to School day with high 5’s, cheers and tattoos.
SRC reps have been selling lemons picked by our Garden club helpers from the school fruit trees. They’ve done a wonderful job of organising the fruit stall and selling lemons before and after school.
Our helpers for Garden club this week were Ben P14, Kai P7, Oliver P3, Evie J4 and Oscar J3. We watered the seedlings that were planted last week by our Garden club group. We found a lot of fruit ready to be picked from our lemon and mandarin trees by the primary building. Our ‘green thumbs’ did a great job of collecting the fruit that had already fallen off the trees for compost and picking some fresh fruit ready for us to sell to our Dernancourt community.
