Lockleys Primary School

Newsletter - Term 4, Week 7

Principal's message

On Friday we had our final Pupil Free Day for the year and we focused on the new South Australian Curriculum for Maths and our Site Learning Plan for 2025 and beyond. These days provide valuable time for staff to come together to learn and plan.

The students are very excited to be practicing their dances for the upcoming End of Year Concert on Thursday 5th December. We look forward to seeing you all in the gym to watch the students perform. Notes will go home shortly from classroom teachers with costume information.

We had our first of three Reception transition visits this week, welcoming our newest students to Lockleys Primary School. It was fantastic to see how excited they were to meet their teacher, visit their classroom and explore the playground.

Our year 4/5/6 students had a terrific experience on camp last week at AFL Max. The camp focused on leadership, learning important skills and strategies and encouraging everyone that they have the capacity to be a leader. Thank you to the staff and volunteers who enabled this camp to happen.

With only three weeks of the school year to go there is a lot going on, End of Year Concert, Graduation, last week celebrations and the end of year assembly. Please see the planner at the end of the newsletter for dates and times for these events.

Kind regards,

Chantal

Acting Principal

Room 11 News

This term in Room 11 has been both busy and exciting! Recently, alongside Room 9, we participated in our 2024 School Camp at AFL MAX. This camp provided an excellent opportunity for students to develop independence and leadership skills through a variety of challenges and activities over the two days. By Thursday, we had many tired—but very accomplished—students!

We also had the privilege of visiting the Adelaide Planetarium at the University of South Australia. This excursion enriched our understanding of the Solar System, perfectly complementing our current Inquiry Unit on Earth and Space. It was truly an incredible learning experience.

In addition, we’ve been honing our Technology skills through coding. As a class, we’ve been programming Spheros to meet specific criteria using an open-ended, collaborative approach. This has allowed us to give and receive constructive feedback while enhancing our problem-solving abilities.

As the term progresses, we are excitedly preparing for the End of Year Concert while also beginning to say farewell to our valued Year 6 students as they prepare to graduate. A sad but exciting period for our class in Room 11 and we are looking forward to what's to come!
Regards,

Rhys Mooney
Year 5/6 teacher

Volleyball

On Monday, 16 of our students proudly represented our school in the 2024 Statewide Schools Volleyball Competition. Our teams approached each of their eight games with a positive, team-first mindset, demonstrating excellent sportsmanship and school spirit throughout the day.

Despite this being our first foray into competitive volleyball, both teams performed exceptionally well, showing remarkable improvement with each match. We extend our congratulations to all participants for their dedication and effort and commend them for the outstanding way they represented our school.

Well done, team!

Colour Fun Run Fundraiser

We would like to say a huge thank you to all the students (and families!) who helped raise over $3000 to fund line marking in the playground. Students celebrated their hard work on Friday 8/11 with a colour run on the oval and were delighted to slime their teachers. We have been reliably informed that being slimed is "cold, lumpy and squishy"!

Remembrance Day

On Monday 11/11, students gathered around our Anzac Memorial to honour armed forces members who have died in the line of duty with a minute of silence. Students then placed poppies they made in class into the memorial.
Please see the gallery below for photos from the event.

Happy Haven OSHC

Vacation care during the recent Spring holiday period provided a variety of excursions, including Coles Healthy Kicks, the Planetarium, the cinema and Little Rocket’s Play Café. The children also enjoyed an incursion with Ace's Magic Entertainment, which was an engaging and interactive experience. During our themed in-days, children engaged in activities such as Lego building, domino games, stop motion clay animation, craft, cooking, scratch art, sports and free choice play. One of the favourite themes was Sensory Sensation, during which children played with a slime sensory kit, drew with pavement chalk, made stress balls by filling balloons with flour and oats, and made papier mâché balloons with newspaper and glue made from flour and water

Bookings for next Vacation Care will open at the end of Week 6, be quick to lock in your bookings for the Summer VAC. If you are looking to join in the fun, feel free to go to our Happy Haven OSHC website to enrol, or you can always contact us on 8155 5444.
