Term 2 Week 7 and Week 8 - 1st - 12th June 2026

Principal's Blog

Make my Day!

Last week, two KP students made my day by excitedly sharing the work they were doing at home for fun. Noah has been practising his maths facts, and Jarrah had written a fantastic story. It’s wonderful to see such enthusiasm and a love of learning from our students!

Athletics Day

We will be hosting our 3-6 athletics carnival at Baxter Oval on Thursday 11th June 2026. Students from 3-6, along with the Year 2 students, who have returned their permission notes and are eligible, will be transported to the event. K-2 will participate in their own carnival on Wednesday 24th June.

 Star Struck

This week, our talented dancers will shine at the Star Struck extravaganza—a fantastic opportunity and experience for our students. A big thank you to Ms Tonks and Miss Brewster for their fantastic organisation, and heartfelt thanks to our parents and carers for supporting the students by ensuring safe travel and cheering them on at the performance.

Mrs Gibson and Mrs McLean are currently on leave. During their absence, I will be relieving for Mrs Gibson, and Mrs Nebauer will be the relieving assistant principal for Stage 2.

Kind regards

Lisa Dallaway

Leadership Day

Our School Leaders enjoyed a wonderful day at Newcastle City Hall last Wednesday, where they took part in activities designed to strengthen their leadership skills and confidence.

Throughout the day, they connected with student leaders from other schools, shared ideas and explored what it means to be a positive role model within our school community.

They represented our school well, showing enthusiasm, respect and a willingness to challenge themselves. We are very proud of the way they approached the day and made the most of this valuable learning experience.

A great day of growth, connection and leadership for our current school leaders!

Spelling Bee

Congratulations to all students who participated in our school Spelling Bee.

We were so impressed by the confidence, focus and calmness shown by our wonderful spellers as they took to the stage and competed in front of their peers. Each participant should be very proud of their effort and courage.

A special congratulations to our Spelling Bee winners, Archer from Stage 2 and Lilah from Stage 3. What a wonderful achievement and we wish you both the best of luck in the future competitions.

Parent Survey

In Term 2, we are inviting parents and carers to participate in the NSW Public Schools Parent Survey. The survey gives you the opportunity to share your experience at our school, including communication, inclusion, wellbeing and how your child’s learning is supported.

Hearing directly from our parents and carers will help us understand what’s working well and where improvements can be made. Participation in the survey is optional, your responses are anonymous, and it takes around 10 to 15 minutes to complete. You can access at the survey at https://surveyme.education.nsw.gov.au/sc/fHqIWVCsg4suBij6-C8JxA2

Further information about the NPSS Parent Survey is available at https://education.nsw.gov.au/npss.

Environmental Group

The Enviro Group meets with Miss Heap every Thursday at lunch break and enjoy working together to care for our school environment.

Students love spending time in the vegetable garden where they plant seeds, grow, harvest and taste fresh vegetables. They also help care for our native gardens, manage the playground recycling bins and work together to keep our playground clean and litter free.

Through these hands-on activities, students are learning the importance of sustainability, teamwork and caring for the environment

Learning and Support

Vocabulary Development in Everyday life

A strong vocabulary is one of the most important building blocks for learning. Children with well-developed vocabulary skills are often better able to understand what they read, express their ideas clearly, and engage confidently in classroom learning.

Simple Ways to Build Vocabulary at Home

1.      Talk Throughout the Day

Everyday routines provide excellent opportunities for language development. While cooking, shopping, driving, or walking, introduce and explain new words naturally.

For example:

·         “These bananas are overripe.”

·         “The weather looks gloomy today.”

·         “Let’s organise the groceries into categories.”

Using rich and varied language helps children hear words in meaningful contexts.

2.      Read Together

Reading remains one of the most powerful ways to build vocabulary. When reading with your child:

·         Pause to explain unfamiliar words

·         Ask questions about the story

·         Encourage predictions and discussion

·         Revisit favourite books

Hearing new words repeatedly helps children remember and use them.

3.      Encourage Curiosity about Words

If your child asks what a word means, explore it together. You might:

·         Discuss synonyms

·         Use the word in another sentence

·         Find examples in real life

·         Look it up together

Showing curiosity about language encourages children to become active word learners.

4.      Use Descriptive Language

Instead of simple words like “good” or “nice,” try more precise vocabulary such as:

·         delighted

·         exhausted

·         enormous

·         fragile

·         fascinating

Rich language exposure supports deeper understanding and communication skills.

Small conversations every day can make a big difference in developing confident communicators and learners!
