Rozelle Public School Newsletter

TERM FOUR WEEK TEN - THE FINAL EDITION FOR 2023!

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Rozelle is a place where Aboriginal children learned, played and celebrated their culture for thousands of years on this beautiful, natural land. As we learn, play and celebrate together on this land, we honour the Wangal people of the Eora nation and pay our respects to elders both past, present and emerging.

As we reach the end of another great year at Rozelle Public School, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the successful year we've had together. This year has been filled with many learning opportunities and wonderful community events including the Warami Art Trail.

Our students have shown dedication and enthusiasm towards daily school life, embracing new challenges with openness and determination. From solving math problems to exploring the skill of filmmaking and diving into the world of books, students have all made progress towards academic success.

Let's also acknowledge the hard work and professionalism of our amazing teachers and support staff. Their unwavering commitment to students and their families is truly commendable. The dedication of staff has played an instrumental role in contributing to a successful school year.

Beyond the classroom, our school community has thrived in creating a warm, inclusive, and supportive environment. Through many events, sports carnivals, art projects, performances and more, our students have showcased their talents and creativity - so much to celebrate!

Wishing all our students and families a wonderful festive season. I hope that everyone finds time to relax and spend time with their families and loved ones.

THE LEAVERS ASSEMBLY

On Friday morning the school will host the final assembly for the year - the Leavers Assembly. The assembly will start at 9.15am where Year Six will be presented with their graduation certificates. Students across other grades, who are leaving the school, will also be acknowledged with a certificate. The assembly should finish before 10.15am.  The Leavers Arch will commence at 2.45pm where Year Six, and those leaving the school, can walk through a student guard of honour.

STAFFING NEWS - 2 ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS

Over the past month the school has recruited two substantive Assistant Principals - Alden Kwok and Lisa Tohver. Both Alden and Lisa are existing members of the RPS team and have been relieving in the roles. They are both well known and highly regarded in our community.  It is great news Alden and Lisa are now permanent members of the executive team.

LEAVING ROZELLE

I would like to extend warm wishes to everyone who is leaving the Rozelle PS community - staff, students and families. Some leaving have been a part of the school community for a short period of time while others have been with us for many years. I wish each and everyone the very best for the future.

In 2024 the following staff will leave Rozelle - some for a short time, others permanently.

Mr Tim Hartnett is moving across to Western Australia. Tim has been with us for the past 18 months and been a highly engaged member of staff - writing plays, leading choirs and performing his guitar. Tim will be missed and we wish him all the very best as he begins a new chapter in the beautiful Margaret River.

In 2023, Julie Day was seconded to a teaching Principal role outside of Orange. Julie has relinquished her position at Rozelle and will be relocating to South Australia where she was successful in gaining a substantive Principal role in a small school outside of Adelaide. Congratulations Julie.

Mel Horton has relocated to the Central Coast. Mel is planning to secure a teaching role closer to home before making a final decision about her position at RPS. Mel has been at Rozelle for 13 years and her kindness, dedication and professionalism will be missed. Good luck Mel.

Nicole Lamsa will be spending a year in Finland with her husband's family. We look forward to Nicole’s return in 2025 and hearing all about life in Scandinavia.

Caris Doyle and Karina Wells who will be on maternity leave for most of 2024. We look forward to meeting the newest members of their families early next year.

And finally… I (Andrew Braiding) will be taking leave in 2024 to do some extended travel. I am very grateful to have this opportunity and be in a position to travel the world for six months. I look forward to returning to Rozelle for the start of the 2025 school year - energised for the next chapter.

Should any family’s situation change and they find themselves not returning to Rozelle in 2024, please email the school before the end of the year or during the holiday rozelle-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au. This is essential as we need to account and cater for every child as we form 2024 classes.

PRESENTATION DAY

If you missed last Friday’s assembly it was a very special day. Not only did we celebrate and acknowledge student achievement, there were some fabulous performances from our choir, dance group and band. Congratulations to all award recipients - a full list can be downloaded here.

      You can help by:

      • listening to children read in the classroom
      • volunteering on sports days

      NUDE FOOD TUESDAYS
Nude Food Tuesdays are back! On these days, students are encouraged to bring lunch and recess that are not wrapped in foil, plastic or commercial packaging. Please be mindful of packaging that is put into lunch boxes each day to minimise any rubbish that needs throwing away. Instead, opt for reusable containers for packaging food. Each Tuesday, class nude food lunchboxes will be tallied so please help the Green Team with this great initiative to reduce the waste/rubbish in our school.

      NUT AWARE
A number of students at Rozelle have been diagnosed with a life-threatening allergy to nuts. While it is not advised for the school to declare itself “nut-free” we are definitely a “nut-aware” school. This means that we ask parents/carers to carefully consider the food they provide for their child and avoid foods that contain nuts. Before sending in food for special occasions for your child’s class, please check with the teacher. The school appreciates everyone’s effort in keeping all our students safe and supporting their families to manage this difficult situation.

      MORNING DROP OFF
Families are reminded that students should not be arriving at school before 8.30am unless they are attending OSH Club or a before school activity such as band rehearsal. There may be occasions where you need to drop your child off 10 minutes earlier. In these instances, students must go to the middle playground, where they sit and wait for teacher supervision to begin.
