Letter from the Principal, Kelli Johnston

Dear Families

As we conclude the school year today we have much to reflect upon, celebrate and be grateful for throughout 2024. The year has been one of great learning, numerous opportunities, events, excursions and more.

Some of the events to celebrate in 2024 include; welcoming 31 new Prep students to SJB, the annual Twilight on the Green community event, First Reconciliation, Halogen Leaders Day Out, St Patrick’s Day Mass at the Cathedral, Inform and Empower Cyber Safety incursions, Easter Liturgies, Mother’s Day stall & afternoon tea, SJB Feast Day celebration, Athletics Carnival, SJB School Production - Pirates of the Curry Bean, SJB Disco, Confirmation, Year 5/6 camp to Campaspe Downs, Year 3/4 camp to Phillip Island, Prep Puffing Billy excursion, Year 1/2 Animals Alive incursion, Year 5/6 Immigration Museum excursion, Cross Country, Melbourne Stars Cricket player clinic & visit, Footy Day, Father’s Day stall & brekkie, Sacrament of Confirmation, Gilwell Park Dad & Kids Camping Weekend, Social Justice Initiatives - Winter clothing appeal - toiletries, commencement of the chicken coop & school building, Working Bees, Carols, Graduation and more. All of this with a strong Learning & Teaching at the forefront of all that we do. No wonder we are all ready for a rest after such a big year!!

We would like to thank the SJB community for your ongoing support and commitment to creating such a vibrant and welcoming community. SJB really is a special place where families nurture, care and look out for each other.  Your participation and involvement contributes enormously to creating such a wonderful faith filled community for all to thrive.

To our School Advisory Council and Parents and Friends members your balanced insights, reflections and actions always have the SJB community at the heart of all you do.  We are enormously grateful for the time that you dedicate to SJB and all the work that you contribute to our wonderful sense of community. Thank you to all for all that you have contributed throughout the year. You are all truly amazing.

To the dedicated and passionate SJB staff.  We are truly blessed to have a team of educators committed to providing our students with the best possible educational experience.  Our staff work tirelessly to collaborate, moderate, learn, plan, teach and build strong relationships with all students to the best of their abilities. Our staff are committed to ongoing learning and school improvement to be the best they can be. In a time when the teaching profession is losing teachers and schools can struggle to employ teachers, we are incredibly fortunate to have such a professional and skilled staff.

To Father Thomas, our Faith Leader and Parish team thank you for your ongoing support and partnership throughout the year.  We are exceptionally fortunate to have such a strong partnership and relationship with Father Thomas, the Parish Team and Parish. They are always open to working together to build a strong faith community.  Father Thomas is always open to visiting our students, supporting our programs, as well as welcoming us to the church.  We are exceptionally proud of our parish and school connection. Thank you Father Thomas and the Parish community.

We wish everyone at SJB all the best for a safe and blessed Christmas. May your Christmas be filled with love, joy and happiness. We wish you all a holiday season filled with relaxation, rest and rejuvenation. For those who are travelling, travel safe. We look forward to welcoming you all back in January 2025.

Merry Christmas and best wishes for a wonderful 2025.

Farewell - Mrs Shari Correlje

Today we farewell Mrs Shari Correlje. Shari has made many wonderful contributions to SJB School throughout her five years.  Shari has worked across all year levels, taken on the role of Digital Technologies Leader and been a wonderful colleague and friend to all during her time at SJB.

We wish Shari all the best as she moves towards full time teaching. St John Vianney’s, Mulgrave are very fortunate to have Shari join their team.

Thank you Shari for all you have contributed to SJB during your time.  We wish you every happiness and success for the future. This is farewell not goodbye as we know you will continue your many wonderful friendships that you have developed in your time at SJB.

Out of Hours School Care - Welcome Beyond EduCare

After much reflection and working with the School Advisory Council there will be a change of OHSC provider to Beyond EduCare for 2025. Beyond EduCare provide OHSC to a number of Catholic primary schools and come with terrific references from their schools.

One of the factors moving forward is to provide care onsite at SJB during school closure days and school holidays.  We are currently working with Beyond EduCare in this area.

Families will receive further communication in the coming days in regard to our commencement with Beyond EduCare for 2025.
