From the Office

Hello everyone,

Thank you for your diligence in continuing to report your child's absence to the school, it just helps to ensure that our attendance records are accurate and up to date as possible. Absences are to be reported via the school phone absence line, or through the school office.

Change of Details:

Just a reminder to let the school know if you have had any change of family / contact details recently to please let the school office know. You can email the changes to the school email address at mount.macedon.ps@education.vic.gov.au or come into the office and fill out a change of details form.

Our annual school production will be held in term 3. Audition scripts have been given to our grade 3, 4, 5 & 6 students. The production will be performed in the last week of Term 3, so if you are away on holidays at that time, or a large portion of the term, please let us know so that we can work the students roles around this. We will be sending more information home about production soon, and please watch this space for production news throughout the term.

Thank you

Wellbeing

Our Well-being and Inclusion Coordinator Olivia  is available at MMPS on Monday's and Tuesday's.

Exploring online safety together

Navigating the online world can be both exciting and challenging for our kids. At school we explicitly teach our students how to navigate this world safely and from a place of knowledge. The resource, Google Interland is like a reliable guide, offering interactive games and activities designed to teach essential lessons on online safety and responsible digital citizenship.

Through these engaging adventures, our young learners will develop a deeper understanding of online risks like cyberbullying and phishing. They will acquire the skills needed to navigate the internet securely, making informed decisions every step of the way.

We are encouraging our families and carers, to join this educational journey with your children at home. By doing so, you'll reinforce the valuable knowledge they acquire in our school, strengthening your family's digital awareness together.

In our pursuit of digital empowerment, let's also remember to supervise the content our children access on YouTube. Here are some great videos to watch with your children to help them explore YouTube confidently.

For an addition to your digital explorations, I'd like to introduce you to TKSST (The Kid Should See This), a captivating website with educational and entertaining videos, offering a great alternative to YouTube.

If you have any questions about any of these resources or need assistance, please feel free to reach out.

Grade 1/2 Update

In Grade 1/2 we have been writing lots of procedures about how to do simple things like make a sandwich and toast. The whole class made bracelets by threading beads and wrote a procedure about how we did it. We also wrote a fictional procedure about how to make a potion to make us invisible or able to fly, some of these had some very unusual (and disgusting) ingredients in them!

In Maths we have been learning about multiplication and have been learning about how we can use arrays, groups of, skips counting, number lines and number stories to solve our equations.

As part of our Inquiry unit we had homework where we had to create and present our own family tree to the class.  We had so many different types of family trees to share. This week we are also looking at family artefacts, heirlooms and rituals and bringing these to share with the class.

For production we have been learning our songs and dance and are beginning to learn our lines.

It has been a very exciting start to Term Three.

What's been happening in Grade 3/4?

Passion Project (Inquiry)

This week, Grade 3/4 commenced their second week of their 4-week Passion Project.

A Passion Project enables each student in the class a chance to explore an ‘Expression of Art’ that interests them. Students have chosen their focus from a range of disciplines such as Dance, Fashion, Sculpture, Music, and the Culinary Arts.

Last week students were introduced to the concept of a Passion Project and were provided an outline of the expectations to refer to over the following four weeks.

During that time, students will:

-          Research an aspect linked to their chosen expression of art (eg. A famous artist from that discipline, the history of their chosen art, how their art has changed over time etc)

-          Create a power point presentation about what they learnt throughout the course of the project.

-          Complete their own piece of art, linked to their chosen discipline.

-          Develop their public speaking/performance skills when presenting their project to an audience.

What this space to see our creations at the end of the unit!

Digital Technology at MMPS

Last week in Prep / 1 my goal to create a class of Don Drapers was achieved, as we became the "Mount Macedon Primary Ad Agency", and by that I mean we learnt how to make logos for our own made-up businesses.

Students had a look at some popular logos and then started to make their own.

This started with some sketching on paper and then using Adobe Logo Maker, to create a digital version.

So, please enjoy some of the work from 'Mia's Flowers, 'Louis' Pokemon', 'James' Giant Cat Cars' and more.

Winding Jamboree Production

This week, the students have been busy practising their dances for the upcoming production. This is always a really fun activity, where the students learn the choreographed moves that go into putting together a dance sequence for their part in the play. The tricky part will be to combine the singing and dancing together, but there's plenty of time to practise this yet!

The Mount Players

37 Plays in 97 minutes with 3 actors... What could possibly go wrong?

The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) is a delightful, fast-paced romp through the Bard's work as three manic men in tights hurtle through all of Shakespeare's plays, leaving you in stitches.  The Mount Players join FizzWack Theatre to bring you a show that takes those long, sometimes tedious and serious subjects, and condenses them down into a couple of hours of frivolity.

If you love Shakespeare, you will love this show! If you hate Shakespeare, you will love this show!

Running from 18 – 26 August ....it’s going to be a real hoot so don’t miss out!

Young Voices of Macedon

Young Voices of Macedon is currently preparing for their annual concert in September. Our older singers (9+) are also commencing work on Sea dreaming by Elena Kats-Chernin, a substantial work that was first performed by a massed choir of children at the opening of the Sydney Olympic Games in 2000. In 2 performances in Bendigo on 25th and 26th November our choir will join with the Bendigo Youth Choir and choirs from Girton College, along with the Bendigo Symphony Orchestra in what promises to be an exciting and memorable experience.
