Leadership News

A message from Julie

As we reach the end of another busy term, I want to take a moment to celebrate our wonderful Dernancourt community. There has been lots of exciting learning taking place in term 2, and term 3 is looking to be just as much fun.

Firstly, a warm welcome to our 19 new Reception students who joined us for their transition visits. It’s been a delight to see so many smiling faces as they explore their new classrooms, make new friends, and get comfortable in our learning environment. We are all looking forward to seeing their growth and achievements as they settle into school life with us in term 3.

A big thank you to all our families for your enthusiastic support of the SRC Donut Day fundraiser. The day was filled with sweet treats, smiles, and of course, the sports clothes. Your contributions have made a real difference to our student-led initiatives. Events like these embody the spirit of Dernancourt – bringing us together and supporting our students in meaningful ways.

Student reports will be available in the report portal from 3pm on Wednesday July 1. If you have not yet gained access, please check in with the front office, who will be able to provide support. Instructions have been sent out on Audiri.

As we head into the school break, I’d like to wish everyone a relaxing and enjoyable holiday. Take some time to recharge, spend time with loved ones, and stay safe wherever you may go. We look forward to welcoming everyone back next term, refreshed and ready for more learning adventures!

Our Values Journey

Our values journey

As part of our values journey, students have been enthusiastically designing logos to represent our new school values: respect, kindness, and teamwork. Soon, we’ll narrow down the designs to the top three for each value, and both students and staff will have the opportunity to vote for their favourites. Our school community is also continuing discussions to clearly define what these values should look like in action at Dernancourt School.

Eco Leaders

Eco Leaders report

On Friday 19 June, our Eco-Leaders proudly hosted five schools from the Campbelltown community for our second Lead the Change Workshop. Aadyaa, Shyama, Louis and Mihinula confidently presented our sustainability initiatives, including Switch Off Day and the Sustainability Club, showcasing the fantastic work taking place at our school.Samuel, Abby and Ziyi also did an outstanding job leading an interactive activity and guiding visitors on a tour of our school. We are incredibly proud of all our Eco-Leaders for the confidence, leadership and enthusiasm they displayed while representing our school so positively. During Choir time this semester, a group of students designed and built their own arcade games, showcasing their creativity, problem-solving and teamwork. They proudly invited younger year levels to test out their games, creating a fun and interactive experience for everyone involved. The visiting classes thoroughly enjoyed playing the games and were impressed by the students' innovative designs and hard work.

Nova Visit

Nova 919 visit

On Friday, 19th June, Jodie and Hayesy presented their breakfast program from our school. There were lots of give aways including bacon and egg sandwiches, banana bread, doughnuts, juice, fruit and for the parents a coffee van was on site for purchases.  We are also extremely grateful for the $500 donation we received from Credit Union SA.  Thanks!

There were lots of activities set up and competitions run throughout the morning.

This was a great way to end the week. Lots of excited children, parents and staff. Thanks Kieran for entering our school into the school visit program.

Sports Donut Day

On Wednesday, we held our Sports Donut Day to raise money for our lunchtime club resources. It was fantastic to see so many children and staff wearing their favourite sports team colours and enjoying the yummy donuts together.

Thanks to your support, we raised $398! This will help us get new resources for our lunchtime clubs. Well done everyone, and thank you for making it such a fun and successful day!

Knockout Soccer

During week 8 our SAPSASA Knockout Soccer team travelled to Service FM Stadium at Gepps Cross to compete in round 1 of knockout soccer. It was a wet and muddy day on the field for our students playing a total of 4 games throughout the day. The day started off slowly losing our first 2 games of the day before finishing stronger drawing our next 2.

Well done to our students for giving it their best, especially some of our year 4's going up against year 5/6 students during the day. Big thanks to the parents who helped transport as well and cheer on the team throughout the day.

Backpacks 4 Kids

Backpacks 4 Kids

Over the next few weeks we will be doing a collection to support Backpacks 4 Kids. Backpacks 4 Kids supports children in Crisis Care. They organise a backpack for children who are taken into crisis care to take to their foster care families. The backpacks contain pyjamas, toothbrush, small torch, small cuddly toys, and essentials to help children transition into their new environment.

We are going to collect children's pyjamas in sizes 4-16, boys and girls, toothbrushes (individually wrapped) and small torches to help with the collation of the backpacks.

Please bring donations to the front office. Your support will be appreciated by Backpacks 4 Kids and the recipients of them.

SAPSASA Girls Knockout Netball

SAPSASA Girls Knockout Netball

Our first netball day got cancelled due to predicted lightning, so a new day was planned but meant only our girls team got to play. We travelled down to Netball Stadium SA to compete in knockout netball. They finished the day with 2 wins, 1 draw and 3 losses. The girls were batted and bruised by the end of the day playing a total of 6 games. They all played well and can hold their heads up high.Thank you to all the parents who helped transport, score and cheer on the students throughout the day. Also thanks to Nicole Court and Nicole Parker for assisting with coaching. Kieran Ryall
