Newsletter No.5 April 26th, 2024

Principal's Message

Dear Families,

Welcome to term 2! I hope you had a great break over the Easter holidays.

It is so lovely to see our wonderful students back into their routines already and engaging in their work.

Parent – Teacher Communication Touch Point

As part of the survey that was recently completed at our open afternoon, it was clear that our parent community would like to be contacted more regularly about your child’s progress.

So here is the plan based on your feedback:

·         Teachers will be contacting parents from Monday 29th April to Friday 3rd May (more information below).

·         We will be sending out a questionnaire to get an indication of how you would like to be contacted during the week of Monday 29th April to Friday 3rd May.

·         Student progress reports will come home with children on Thursday 27th June.

·         Parent teacher interviews will commence at the beginning of Term 3, dates to be confirmed.

·         Further set times for contact to discuss progress will be made for the remainder of the year, dates to be confirmed.

During the week of Monday 29th April to Friday 3rd May teachers will be contacting you to discuss your child progress. Below are some further considerations to make this a meaningful process for all:

·         Initial contact will be made by phone (unless otherwise indicated), so during that week you may receive a phone call from an unknown or withheld number, please answer it may be us.

·         These have been designed to have a brief conversation around how you child is progressing, so please be aware that these will only be between 5 to 10 minutes. If you are wanting to have further conversations a new appointment will need to be arranged with the relevant teacher.

·         We will attempt to contact you twice, if we cannot a summary of progress will be emailed to you indicate the progress the students have made considering their point of need and an indication of where they are in relation to the year level they are in.

ANZAC Day Ceremonies

Thank you to our school captains who placed a wreath as part of the ANZAC service in Mansfield yesterday.  It was a moving ceremony and I'm so proud of our captains.

Cross Country

Well done to our Grade 3 to 6 students and teachers on successfully completing the school cross country Wednesday.  A huge thank you to Jen Driessen, Aaron Kirkby and staff who supported the kids.  District Cross Country is coming up on the 3rd May.

Uniform

Could families please support us to ensure that students come to school in full school uniform.  This is particularly important for senior students as they set an example for the rest of our kids.  If you are seeking an exemption for your child, please email it to me.  We have second-hand jumpers available for purchase at the school office.

Like always, please get in touch with us with any questions or concerns.  Call or email your classroom teacher, call the front office or email me nicole.comerford@education.vic.gov.au

Have a great weekend.

Take Care,

Nicole

Library Chairs

Dear MPS Community,

We have some lovely sturdy chairs that we can use in our library, but they need some love. We would prefer to re-use and upcycle them, rather than dump them!

They have some splitting on the vinyl and could really benefit from a reupholster to make them comfortable and gorgeous for our students to use.

If you know of anyone who has the skill and desire to reupholster these potential beauties (and would possibly donate this skill), could you please ask them to make contact with our lovely office staff.

Thank you

Jenny Gough

Classroom Teacher 3C

Library Bags

Thank you to staff & friends for donating the fabric for our new library bags.

A special thank you to Janet Stone for assisting in making the first 100 library bags.

We would love for more donations of fabric & velcro as well as volunteers.

If you are interested in making library bags please contact Elspeth on Monday at school.

Library Mural

Massive thank you to Jenny Gough for organising Jenny and Simone Gibney to paint a mural in the library. It is truly amazing, and we are so lucky to have Jenny and Simone donate their skills, passion, and time to our school.

Skipping Afternoon for House Points

Every second Friday that assembly is not on the House Captains are running a skipping activity where students can earn house points.

At lunch time, students can come down to bottom terrace and participate. Each student who spends time skipping, earns 5 points each for their house. House Captains also select a few students each time who demonstrate good sportsmanship and behaviour to award extra points to. House points are then shared at assembly which is every second Friday.

GARDEN CLUB NEWS

This year our amazing gardening club has been working very hard getting our school veggie garden into shape after the long summer break. We have planted our winter crops but would love to give the soil a real boost. If anyone has any manure and/or straw at home that they would be happy to donate it would be greatly appreciated and the veggies would love it too! We would love for our veggie garden to be productive and produce enough food to be shared with our school community and perhaps even donated to charities that help those in need in our broader community. Please feel free to email Alice on alice.kilpatrick@education.vic.gov.au

Thank you all very much,
