Important Bushfire Information

With this year's bushfire season fast approaching we take this opportunity to advise you of the bushfire emergency arrangements for our school.

Our school is in a bushfire prone area and is listed as Category 2 on the NSW Department of Education’s bushfire risk register.

To ensure the health, safety and welfare of students and staff, the Department has determined that on days when NSW Rural Fire Service declares a Catastrophic Fire Danger Rating for Caves Beach area, our school will temporarily cease operations for the following day.

In addition, schools may be made non-operational due to changing higher risk conditions and advice from emergency services and the State Emergency Operations Centre.

We recommend that you monitor advice from our school, via Schoolbag and Facebook, which will push notifications to you advising that the school is non-operational.

The Fire Danger Rating does not mean there will be a bushfire, but rather weather conditions that could pose a high risk for a bushfire event. The measure is proactive to ensure staff, students and the community remain safe.

To ensure that we continue to support student learning on these days, I have put the following arrangements in place:

·        Students may access online learning via the Department of Education Digital Learning Packs at Primary (nsw.gov.au)

Our school will inform our school community after 4 pm if there is a change to the operational status of the school for the following day. To assist the school in contacting all families please ensure that you have provided us with up-to-date contact details.

Further information on up-to-date communication of school operations, can also be found through:

· Our school website or Facebook page

· NSW Department of Education’s School Safety website: https:// education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/school-safety

· NSW School Updates app: https://education.nsw.gov.au/parents-and-carers/nsw-school-updates-app, and

· Social media.

We recommend that all our families follow the advice of the NSW Rural Fire Service and ensure that your family knows what to do if there is a fire.

It can take as little as five minutes to make your plan. Discuss it with your family so you know what you will do in the event of a fire. https://www.myfireplan.com.au/

Please contact the school on (02) 49 711 838 if you would like any further information about this matter.

Grow Your Mind

Another strength you can grow is HELPFULNESS.

Being helpful means to think of ways we can be of benefit in the classroom, on the playground or at home.

When we show HELPFULNESS we use our SENSITIVE OCTOPUS and

WISE OWL. This strength is important for our mental health because we feel rewarded and happy when we help someone.

 You can display HELPFULNESS by:

  • looking for opportunities to be useful; for example holding the door open for someone if they are carrying something
  • not waiting to be asked to help; such as lending a pencil to a friend if they have forgotten theirs

Week 10 - No rehearsals!

Year 6 students or any student who will not be continuing band in 2024 is to return their hired instrument to the band room by Tuesday week 10.

All continuing students are able to keep hired instruments over the holiday break. ( You could even play it still!)

Reminder! Please send your child to rehearsals with a display folder each week.

SAVE THE DATE!!!

Exciting term 1 news already!!!

Band camp has been booked in for Wednesday 27th and Thursday 28th March!!! We will be heading back to the same venue at Rathmines and will follow a similar program to the camp run this year.

This is a return to our regular camp time in term 1 which allows us to consolidate our bands playing early in the year.

A deposit will be due in the first few weeks of term 1 and final payments by week 7 of term 1. It is predicted that the cost will be $150 for overnight campers and $115 for day trippers.

Year 2 students are day trippers and all other students are overnight campers regardless of whether they are junior or senior band players. At the start of term 1 all the training band students will be referred to as Junior band, so this camp is for all our new players too!

Music tutors

Please ensure you contact your child's tutor if they are unable to attend a scheduled lesson. There are  a few tutors adding new days and times to work around school events and new student numbers, thank you tutors and families for being flexible!

Each tutor has a different end time for this term, please contact them directly if you need clarification of lesson day and times.

New Band members

Training band has enjoyed a wonderful start to band rehearsals and tutor lessons over the past few weeks. If your child is looking at continuing in band in 2024 they are welcome to keep their hired instrument over the holidays. If they are not continuing please return the instrument to the band room by Tuesday week 10.

Fees are now displayed in the school bytes system for new members. We will continue to add new students as they join.

For anyone else wanting to sign up, the school has almost exhausted its collection of instruments for hire! There is still 1 trombone, a french horn and 3 saxophones available.

These instruments will be available from term 1 2024 to hire.

If you have your own instrument you are very welcome to sign up at any time from the start of term 1, 2024.

Fees - 2023 Junior and Senior Band - members from all of 2023 school year.

Fees for term 4 are now due:

Individual reminders were sent home a few weeks ago for those families who are not up to date with fees for 2023.

It is very important that fees are up to date for 2023 as the band will transition to a new payment procedure in 2024.

From 2024 all band fees will be collected through the school office and school bytes system to stream line payments.

Senior band - $65

Junior Band - $55

Yearly instrument hire fee - $100 - only for members who hire from the school and take the instrument home - clarinets, flutes, trumpets, saxophones, trombones, bass guitar.

Please use your child's name as the reference, eg ScottT1fees

Example of fees for term :

Junior band member playing the clarinet and hiring from the school. Term 1 fees: $55 plus instrument hire fee for 2023 of $100. Total $155.

An instrument hire fee is only payable once per year. Please ignore if you paid.

Remember! The junior and senior band collects fees separate to the school, see bank details below.
